Cultivating My Prayer Life.

Passion & Purpose Weekly // Cultivating My Prayer Life

Here are some lessons I have learned and continue to learn about cultivating my prayer life:

1. My prayer life is not just pragmatic.

I have learned and relearned that prayer is not just a pragmatic way to get work done but a window to God's majesty! (See Psalm 27).

2. My prayer life helps me to live above the snake line.

The snake line is the altitude on a mountain at which snakes can no longer live. As we pray, we are reminded that we are seated in Christ in heavenly places, and as we pray from that place, we release God’s power into our world. This realization of praying from this place allows me to live above the snake lines of this life. (See Ephesians 2)

3. My prayer life is a place to pray through my anxieties.

The life of a disciple is fraught with anxieties, trials, and challenges. Praying through our anxieties allows us to cast our anxieties upon the Lord and receive His care for us. (See Philippians 4.4-8, 1 Peter 5.7)

4. My prayer life is a place to pray for my responsibilities.

We all have people we are responsible to, responsible with, and responsible for. I need to be faithful in prayer for all of these relationships. I have used the prayers of Paul to help me cultivate my prayer life regarding my responsibilities. (See Romans 12.12, Ephesians 6.18-20)

5. My prayer life is a place to pray strategically.

There are things that I believe God wants to do in and through his people and that the world, the flesh, and the Devil oppose. Out of that conviction, I want to pray strategically for things that God has put on my heart to believe for and partner with Him to see those come to pass. (See Acts 13.1-3, Romans 1.5,9-10, Philippians 1.19, Colossians 4.2-4, 2 Thessalonians 3.1-2, Galatians 4.19)

6. My prayer life is a place for partners.

My prayer life is sweeter and more powerful when my friends partner with me. The work is too great, and the needs are too large to go alone! (See Romans 15.30, 2 Corinthians 1.10-11, Ephesians 6.18-20)
